Release and consent to the publication and storage of images

The Museo Novecento confirms its support for the growth of artistic talent and after having produced exhibitions of a critical nature in favor of emerging artists, it now chooses to support four of the best artists under 40 active in the beautiful country.

An all-female jury – made up of a museum director, a gallery director, a freelance curator and a collector – will select the 4 artists who will receive the award, designed to support their more experimental research.

A pre-selection will be made by the scientific staff of the Museo Novecento and by a commission of external experts, who will choose 12 artists to be presented to the jury for the final decision. The choice of the 4 winners will take place in the first months of 2021 based on the evaluation of the dossiers presented by the artists who will respond to the open call launched by the Museum.

From the Renaissance onwards, Florence has been a place of experimentation, the great artistic talents were trained in the Florentine workshops, and patrons supported the development of quality arts and crafts with their commissions. In a garden near San Marco, Lorenzo the Magnificent set up the first Academy and rewarded the best artistic youth with important assignments. The magnificence of Florence was born and sustained itself on the support and enhancement of emerging creativity, believing in the qualities of the avant-garde, creating the necessary economic, political, social conditions for the affirmation of art.

On these historical foundations and in response to current needs, WONDERFUL! was born, an award that is also part of the tradition of scholarships for young artists awarded by the municipal administration of Florence between the 1960s and 1970s.

The first edition of WONDERFUL! it will be accompanied by the publication of a catalog and an exhibition dedicated to the project. An archive on Italian art will also be launched which will collect the dossiers sent by the participants in the call, which will be enriched over the years and will remain available to curators, art historians, critics and collectors as study and in-depth material.
