Conversations for adults and ateliers for children on the exhibitions

Maestà tradita by Gaetano Pesce  and Beyond Borders /After the Flood: the artists’ engagement

On the occasion of the current exhibitions at Museo Novecento – Maestà tradita by Gaetano Pesce and Beyond Borders /After the Flood: the artists’ engagement – Florentine Civic Museums and MUS.E Association suggest between November, December and January a series of special appointments for adults and families. The opportunity comes from two charming expositions, very different from each other, which allow to deepen two fundamental traites of the arts of the italian 20th century; the first one, monographic, is dedicated to a great name of italian architecture and design and allows to start a reflection not only on his work but also to its important themes, in particular the female condition; the second allows to relive the post-flood with the eyes of the international artists who offer one of their works to compensate Florence from the disaster, bringing to the eyes of the public a selection of “never seen” of the repositories of the civic collections.

Here is the calendar of the initiatives:

Around Gaetano Pesce. Conversations about the exhibition and the artist

The visit to the exhibition will be an opportunity to dialogue with the public on themes, forms and reflections that Pesce has developed from the sixties to today. Particular attention will be paid to the sphere of the feminine, the central topic of the exhibition, which has played such a part in his work – just think of the famous series of armchairs Up  – and which well testifies to the relationship between art and reality inherent in all his work.

For whom: young people and adults

Where: Museo Novecento, temporary exhibition rooms (no access to the museum)

When: Sunday 13 November – 11 December – 15 January h12.00

Duration: 45′

For an elastic world. Atelier among the arts.

An icon of the Italian twentieth century, Gaetano Pesce is an artist, architect and designer who deliberately escapes strict definitions: as he himself writes, “specialization leads us to solitude. While horizontal knowledge gives us the opportunity to be in touch with many fields of knowledge”. The exhibition dedicated to him will be the way to engage in a “workshop of the author” in which to play with hands and brain to experience creative processes transversal, open and “elastic”.

For whom: families with children 8/12 years

Where: Museo Novecento, temporary exhibition rooms (no access to the museum)

When: Sunday 13 November – 11 December – 15 January h10.30

Duration: 1h

Conversations on display. Artists’ response to the flood.

The visit to the exhibition Beyond Borders /After the Flood: the artists’ engagement will be an opportunity to deepen one of the main themes of the Museo Novecento, or the artists’ response to the appeal of the art critic Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti who after the flood invited them to donate their work to establish a new International Museum of Contemporary Art. This appeal was widely echoed all over the world, so much so that already in February 1967 the exhibition Gli Artisti per Firenze will open in Palazzo Vecchio. The exhibition presents itself as a “counter-song” to the works already exhibited in permanent form within the museum itinerary, in the section dedicated precisely to this theme, presenting to the public a valuable nucleus of works from the repositories: Cuban, Chinese, The Serbs, whose works restore the scope and breath of artistic solidarity that sprang from the drama.
