Coro Novecento di Fiesole in concert. In collaboration with I.S.R.T.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, The Coro Novecento di Fiesole offers an evening of music and literature focused on songs of denunciation and protest linked to this dramatic and decisive moment in the history of the twentieth century.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Historical Institute of the Resistance in Tuscany, provides, as a fundamental element, the contextualization of songs through the reading of testimonies, memories, narratives and poems. The performance of the antiwar songs will then be joined by the presentation of compositions from the repertoire of Paul Eluard, Pablo Neruda, Nazim Hikmet, Miguel Hernandez, Genevieve Taggard, as well as writings of the Pasionaria’ Dolores Ibarruri.

The Coro Novecento di Fiesole was founded in 2009 as an expression of the “Laboratory of social singing”, proposed by the Department of Formation of the Municipality of Fiesole and the Association “Amici della Biblioteca di Fiesole” and its president, Valdemaro Morandi.

The Choir, composed of 50 elements, is directed by Elena Mercuri of the presence of the multi-instrumentalist Eleonora Tassinari. The artistic direction is entrusted to Giacomo Gentiluomo. The repertoire ranges from songs of the Italian Risorgimento to those of libertarian anarchism, from songs of work and emigration to those of the Resistance, from songs against war to songs of denunciation and protest. The songs of the Tuscan, Italian and European folk tradition are also offered on special occasions. The choir performed, among other things, at the Salone dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio, the Sala Luca Giordano of Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the Teatro Romano of Fiesole, the Palazzo Comunale of Pistoia, Villa Salviati in Florence. There are numerous participations in important events and events, including the Festival of the League of Culture of Piadena, the May Day at the Institute De Martino in Sesto Fiorentino, the Festival of political song in Attersee in Austria. There are also many collaborations with soloists and other groups (among others, Ginevra Di Marco, the Choir of the Miners of Santa Fiora, the Solar Theatre of Fiesole, Chille de la Balanza) and relations established with other Associations and Institutions (ANPI, ANED, ISRT, Circoli ARCI; Communes of Florence, Fiesole, Bagno a Ripoli, Pistoia, Sesto Fiorentino).
