Noi del Novecento

The fact that the museum will be a space of the society and for the society it is today a consolidated axiom. The fact that museums can e should strive to be increasingly and better accessible places, inclusives, for the benefit of the public is foundation and practice of many international, national and Florentine cultural institutes.

The museums in 2019 are social devices for the individual and the collectivity, place themselves as important references for the construction of single and plural identities, offer precious experiences – still irrepleacable- of meeting with the traces that humanity, from antiquity to the present day, leaves of itself and of his being-in-the-world.

The Florentine Civic Museums adhere also to these premises and participate in this path; and it is in this context that the work adressed for so many years to visitors with special physical, mental or social needs is inserted. With the conviction that the meeting with art, history and culture brings a deep wellness and a meaning which is still hard to frame, measure and define, the museums of the city and MUS.E have a great commitment towards “special publics” and all the “special people” who want to access to the museums, live them, experience and understand them. This is the framework within wich the dialogue with people with Alzheimer and dementia is inserted – with their relatives and caregivers; a dialogue started years ago on the impulse of Regione Toscana – precursors the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and Museo Marino Marini – thanks to which over time the project Musei Toscani for Alzheimer has developed over all regional territory (http://www.regione.toscana.it/-/musei-toscani-per-l-alzheimer) and thanks to which Florentine Civic Museums saw a lot of elderly attend their rooms, get excited, observe, tell and remember. And if until now to visit the Civic Museums were the RSA’s guests, now Museo Novecento opens his doors to their families too, proposing an experimental path for elderly with dementia and their caregivers.

We start on Friday, May 24 with a presentation meeting to all the participants, for then distributing into two groups that will visit the museum and its collections – so far to the biographical path of the elderly, who see the 20th century as “their” century – together with their relatives, MUS.E mediators and specialized geriatric operatos every Friday until the end of June, following this schedule:
