On the occasion of the exhibition Solo. Piero Manzoni (18 September-13 December 2018) the Florentine Civic Museums and MUS.E propose a program of approach and reflection to the work of the great artist Manzoni<\/strong>, who in the middle of the last century has indelibly marked the path of art by drawing new scenarios of relationship between artist, work and public<\/strong>.  The masterpieces on display – emblematic of his production – will in fact offer the public the opportunity to investigate the foundations of art, in a delicate balance between philosophical investigation and contemptuous irony.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Guided tours at the exhibition Solo. Piero Manzoni<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born from an aristocratic family in the fertile countryside of Cremona and briefly embarked on his studies in philosophy and practice in the academy, Piero Manzoni is one of the artists who have changed the coordinates of twentieth-century art: within a few years the parameters of author, of space, of time of the work of art are transformed, overturned, renewed, giving rise to a “new artistic conception” that can be all and nothing at the same time. The visit will allow you to appreciate the famous masterpieces of the artist, so unique and repeatable, so authentic and daily: from the Achromes, unsettling objects of thought, to the Lines, philosophical and infinite signs; from the Air Bodies reducible and extensible to the Wind artist; from the Sculptures to eat (the famous eggs with imprint) to the even more famous Artist\u2019s Shit: to reflect on what is art and try first hand, at the end of the path, with a small and individual creation. Because, as Manzoni writes and as we read at the entrance of the exhibition, “the occurrence of new conditions, the proposal of new problems involve, with the need for new solutions, new methods, new measures: we do not detach from the earth by running or jumping; we need wings”.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Living Sculptures<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Piero Manzoni invites the spectators to a chess game in which work and the public are intertwined: his seventy-three living sculptures are well-known examples, as they subvert every tradition and every convention on the fruition of art. “In 1959 I had thought of exhibiting live people: in 1961 jo began to sign, to expose them, people. To these my works I give a card of authenticity. Also in January ’61 I built the first “magic base”: any person, any object on it was, until it remained, a work of art. I made a second one in Copenhagen<\/em>. On the third, large iron, placed in a park of Herning, rests the earth: it is the base of the world.” The children will be led to discover the exhibition and then resume in the laboratory the main lines of Manzoni\u2019s work and thus become creators and spectators of an artistic process that is played on the edge of paradox.
