Within a very rich range of current exhibitions and ideas offered by the precious civic collection, MUS.E offers a programm of tours, conversations and atelier for youngs and adults to approach to the art of 20th-century.

The drawing: atelier-tour on the exhibition “Nel Novecento. Da Modigliani a Schiele, da De Chirico a Licini”

During the 20th Century the traditional tecnique of drawing opened itself to multiple trajectories, who have experimented the endless linguistic and expressive possibilities. The exhibition shows drawings of great artists that through the XXth century- from Telemaco Signorini to Amedeo Modigliani, from Giorgio De Chirico to Filippo De Pisis, from Renato Guttuso to Mario Sironi –with exceptional presences by Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Egon Schiele, Otto Dix, George Grosz or Erns Ludwig Kirchner.

After a quick path at the exhibition, the public will be invited to take a pencil and work, in a very free and personal way, in front of one of the exposed drawings: an opportunity to experiment a new way to look at the artwork and recover a manual dimension, forgotten by most of us

For who: youngs and adults.

When: every Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and every Sunday at 3:30 p.m. (except on Sunday, September 8)

Tours at the exhibition Solo. Gino Severini

The visit allows to appreciate the artistic production of Gino Severini (1883-1966) starting from his famous Maternità (1916) to wind during the ‘20s and ‘30s, with a particular attention to the works with the Commedia Dell’Arte as subject. If the historical avantgardes had yet started the re-discovery of it together with the circus figures, Severini developed a passion for the masks and for popular theatre and will realize two important decorative cycles on this theme, in the Montegufoni’s Castle near Florence (1921-22) and at the private house of the dealer Leonce Rosenberg in Paris (1928-1929). The brushes, the drawings and the sketches at the exhibition then allow us to relive the joyful atmosphere – and melancholic at the same time – of these subjects, but also to grasp the stylistic research of the artist in those same years, to a new classicism: as written by Serverini himself, “It was important to them that I painted the characters of the Commedia dell’Arte […] I did not ask for anything better than to please them […] the subject allowed me to keep myself between the human and the abstract, between the invented thing and the real one; which corresponded to the precise state in which my art was found at that time”.

Born in the 20th Century

The XX century, differently from all the others, has a peculiar feature: many of us has lived it and experienced, they have shaped it and were shaped by it. Therefore, it is a historic period where the majority of us has a memory or a direct experience, for historic, political and social events as much as urbanistic tranformations and artistic evolutions.

Museo Novecento invites all people born in the previous century to make their own contribution, sharing a short tale (2 minutes maximum) that is emblematic for the 20th century: a personal episode, an event, a memory that will contribute to keep the memory alive of a century now ended. After a path through the artworks of the museum, the participants will be than called to combine their tale to one of the works of art of the museum, enriching them – again – with a new meaning.
