Museo Novecento
Three piano concerts at the Museo Novecento dedicated to the key figures of the musical history of the last century. More than two hundred years after its birth, the piano, thanks also to the technical changes made over the course of two centuries, continues to be the leading instrument of the twentieth-century music scene and the main laboratory of composers, on which to exercise inventiveness.
From the days of plucked keyboards to the modern percussive mechanism increasingly capable of supporting enormous masses of sound, there is almost no musician who has not tried his hand at piano works, or in any case has not used it as a means of composing. And so, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and many other exceptional men have constantly found, even through that magical and comfortable keyboard, new sound ways and new aesthetic codes.
If we were to indicate the most innovative and diversified century, from a stylistic point of view, the twentieth century would come to mind first and foremost, above all for the theoretical and philosophical connections that lie behind every new artistic “school”. Difficult to find an unconscious choice; difficult to find a musician not involved in the current trends and fashions of the moment; difficult to emerge by isolating oneself from other intellectuals. Much of this probably begins before and in the Impressionist world, where artists of various disciplines meet, confront and exchange ideas, and often seem to chase each other. From this point of view, the French musician Claude Debussy is certainly a central figure of fin de siècle culture and, later, the ideal initiator of “modern” musical art.
