Through the comparaison between the major exponents of italian and european museum institutions, the conference will lead to reflect on the redefinition of museum structures, that from the traditional conservative and valorizing functionality add new forms of cultural mediation, communication and dissemination of knowledge, by using platforms and innovative technologies. A similar aspect, that opens the museum dimension to unusual perspectives until recently, is central especially in this phase, where visitors’ phisical presence in art places (museums, archaeological parks, churches and other sites) is reduced if not zeroed for health reasons.

Florence proves to be the right place for an extended discussion on the past, present and future of museums. Right in Florence in 1789 by the will of the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo di Lorena the Uffizi Gallery was opened to the public, one of the first museums in the world thought and managed in a modern sense. Then one cannot transcend from the most enlightened principles that gave rise to museums and those relating the most modern institusions: preserve memory of the past, promote research and updating, spread love for art, support the creative talent, in a comparaison always opened and vital with contemporary and different cultures of the world.
