On 10 November Pope Francis will be in Florence to participate in the work of the National Ecclesial Convention.

There is no need to underline how much this pontiff is having a very significant impact not only on the Church but also on the lives of millions of people far from the faith and religious confessions but equally stimulated and urged by the disruptive challenges that the pope is launching on a planetary level. For Florence this is an extraordinary opportunity to confirm its vocation as a city marked by the values of humanism and peace.
To approach this event in an analytical and reflective form, the municipal administration promotes a series of meetings.
The first event took place last September 11 in Palazzo Medici Riccardi (Sala Luca Giordano) with the participation of Mons. Franco Giulio Brambilla, bishop of Novara, and Prof. Ernesto Galli della Loggia (historian and columnist of Corriere della Sera).

The second appointment is scheduled for Friday, September 25, at 17, at the Museo Novecento in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, on the theme ‘Politics, Italy and Europe in front of work’, with Monsignor Nunzio Galantino, secretary of the CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference)Sandro Gozi, Undersecretary of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for European Affairs, and Annamaria Furlan, Secretary-General of the CISL. The Archbishop of Florence, Cardinal Giuseppe Betori, spoke.

Third meeting on October 2, in the Aula Magna of the Rectorate in St Mark’s Square, with Massimo Livi Bacci and Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, who will talk about ‘The importance of the family in the face of social change and new poverty’.

Last meeting on 29 October, in the Salone dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio, Tra fede, politica e cultura’ with Joseph Weiler, rector of the European Institute, and Monsignor Julian Carron, president of the Fraternity of Communion and Liberation.
