Temporary exhibitions at the Museo Novecento are coming

Wednesday 15 June inauguration of Verbal Columns and A certain probability.

Double appointment at the Museo Novecento on Wednesday 15 June at 6.30 pm, with the inauguration of the site-specific installation Verbal Columns by Nanni Balestrini and the solo exhibition A certain probability by Daniela de Lorenzo.

Verbal Columns

Poet, writer and visual artist, since the 1960s Nanni Balestrini has participated in the most radical movements in the field of the European literary and artistic avant-garde, experimenting with the possible relationships between word, text and image.
The site-specific artistic project created for the Renaissance loggia of the Leopoldine complex is created by MUS.E in collaboration with BONOTTOEDITIONS. Once again Nanni Balestrini confronts the precious medium of the tapestry in a work of a conceptual nature. Nine monumental tapestries designed by the artist thanks to the manufacturing expertise of BONOTTOEDITIONS will cover the columns of the loggia of the Novecento Museum, creating an unusual dialogue with the architecture, the Basilica and Piazza Santa Maria Novella. In addition to the public installation that will involve the external loggia, two tangible tapestries will inhabit the cloister of the Leopoldine as a sign of connection with the exhibition, inside the Museum, of the historical work La dulze vita, offered as a gift by Nanni Balestrini to the city from Florence. The work, a collage from 1962, testifies to the artist’s first experiments and adds another great name to the interdisciplinary room dedicated to the Sixties of the permanent itinerary of the Twentieth Century Museum.
The project is one of the initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Florence for the Florentine Summer 2016 and is part of the Secret Florence program created in collaboration with Pitti Immagine.

Verbal Columns will remain visible from June 15th until August 28th 2016.
Opening June 15th 2016 at 6.30 pm.

A certain probability

Present within the permanent itinerary of the Museo Novecento with Untitled 1988, a youthful work linked to neo-minimal language, Daniela De Lorenzo presents for the exhibition A certain probability a selection of 7 rigorously unpublished works, produced between 2014 and 2016 The works, exhibited on the second floor of the Museum, investigate the human body in its most sensitive aspects and allow us to reconstruct the intense activity of the artist starting from the different media used. From ceramics to embroidery, from photographs to paper sculptures, to video, the works, temporarily exhibited until 4 September, verify the delicate relationship between body, identity and perception. Condensing the memory of a gesture or evoking the physicality of an absent figure, far from being fragments of existence, the organs, limbs and traces formalized by the artist show fragments of another corporeality, attesting to new possible identities.
The exhibition, curated by MUS.E and organized by Città Nascosta, is one of the initiatives promoted by the Municipality of Florence for the Florentine Summer 2016.

The exhibition A certain probability will remain open to the public from 16 June to 4 September 2016.
Opening June 15th at 6.30pm.
