8. fashion: the birth of pitti

12th February 1951: Giovan Battista Giorgini organized in his own home at Villa Torrigiani the first collective fashion show of several Italian fashion houses. This event is associated with the birth of Italian fashion. The fashion shows, initially organised occasionally, then became popular semi-annual events. The success of these initiatives was followed by the need to find a suitable venue, to accommodate a continually growing public. From July 1952 this choice fell on the Sala Bianca in Palazzo Pitti. These and other important phases in the history of fashion in the 20th century can be viewed using a multimedia device to consult video and research material.
